Heritage Elementary Library Procedures
(revised August 2022)
Library visits: each class visits each week. The students will receive instruction, book recommendations, story sharing, and be able to exchange books.
Behavior: Students are expected to exhibit appropriate library behavior during class and open library time.
Library cards: Each student will be issued a library card at the beginning of the school year. Lost or damaged cards are the responsibility of each student. Replacement library cards may be purchased in the library for $1.00.
Open library: at the beginning of each school day with teacher approval the students may visit the library to exchange books.
Checkout limits: K-1st: 1 book per visit
2nd: 2 books per visit
3rd-6th: 3 books per visit
Holds: 3rd to 6th grade students may place up to three books on hold by accessing account on-line.
Overdue books: Books are checked out for 10 days. They may renew the books an indefinite number of times unless another student has requested that title. Notices will be emailed to parents and students for overdue books.
Book Care: please ensure that library books are well cared for while they are in your home. Keep them away from food, liquid, small children and pets. Store them in safe, clean locations.
Lost or Damaged Books: per district policy, payment is required for the loss or damage of a book. The payment due will be the cost of the book at the time of acquisition, along with a two-dollar processing fee. The school will not accept a copy of the lost book in exchange of payment. If lost book is found within 30 days of payment, a refund will be issued. After 30 days no refund will be given.
End-of-Year book return: All books are to be accounted for by the student’s final visit the second-to-last week of school. Students with missing or unaccounted for library materials will not be allowed to attend Field-Day activities.
